What these machines cost
Inspection equipment spans a wide band — a basic metal detector or checkweigher sits in the low-to-mid five figures, while a high-sensitivity X-ray system with multi-lane rejection climbs well into six figures. Vendors do not publish price lists, so treat these as order-of-magnitude bands and always quote the aperture/weighing range, reject mechanism, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and service contract in the same scope.
5 questions to ask before you buy
- What detection sensitivity do you guarantee on my product, and at what false-reject rate? Sensitivity is meaningless without the false-reject figure; ask for both on your exact product.
- Can you run my product through a validated test and show me the detection and rejection data? A witnessed, challenged test (ferrous, non-ferrous, stainless spheres) on your product is the only proof that matters.
- Which standard does the system meet (IP rating, ATEX, 3-A, EHEDG)? Match the enclosure and hygiene rating to your wash-down environment — not just a "sanitary" claim.
- Is the checkweigher MID/OIML approved for legal metrology where I sell? Weight-regulated fills may require legal-for-trade approval; confirm before you buy.
- What is the validation documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and who writes it? For regulated lines, the validation package is part of the machine, not an afterthought.
